Senzig

Coat of Arms

13th Century

This artist's rendition is from the description found in the archives of the crest awarded to Anselme de Sentzich by the Duke of Luxemburg in 1252 AD to commemorate his excellent service in armed conflict. The red Lion of Luxemburg recalls the service, while the grapes and press on the other side note the vineards and winery that went with the village of Sentzich which was given to Anselme. We don't know if the man took his name from the village, or the village got it's name from the man, but he then became "the first Senzig."
